Pasadena, California     LEED Platinum Certified, 2012

academic_Jorgensen LabProject Description:  Jorgensen Lab is a two-story concrete building housing two
of the California Institute of Technology's key sustainability research efforts: the Resnick Institute for Science, Energy and Sustainability; and the Joint Center for Artificial Photosynthesis. The 38,750-square-foot, $90M renovation featured low-energy plant design, a computerized BMS, active chilled beams, and photovoltaics.

Scope of Work:  TMCx provided LEED Enhanced commissioning of mechanical/HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and lighting systems, including functional testing of air handling units, laboratories with fume hoods, VAV boxes and reheat, fan coils, heat exchangers, heating hot water pumps with VFD and variable primary flow, laboratory exhaust, lighting & daylighting, domestic hot water, and metering infrastructure linked to BMS.

Challenges & Successes: At the Owner's request, TMCx wrote the OPR. Development of this complex document involved extensive interviewing of the Owner, the architect, and the design team to determine how the building would be used, followed by team review of several drafts until consensus was achieved. Our ability to take on this difficult task--and deliver--freed up valuable time for the client.

Commissioning Results: TMCx identified 112 systems issues and 276 design issues.
